Philadelphia has seen a staggering amount of gun homicides under Mayor Kenney and D.A. Larry Krasner’s failed leadership. A city that continues to see spikes in gun homicides each year should be a city with a plan, and these Philadelphia leaders seem to only sit on their hands like lame ducks, and at the expense of the most vulnerable populations.
Granted, 2020, was a difficult year for all, but for Kenney, gun homicides rose by 40% in 2020 and there has been a 101 percent, six-year homicide increase on Mayor Kenney’s watch.
I had the honor of listening to Mayor Michael Nutter (Philly mayor, 2008-2016) and former two-term Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed speak to an engaged Philadelphia audience a bit ago. (Video included below)
Re-watching Mayor Nutter talk about the effects of homicides in the city, you can hear and feel his passion and concern for the city of Philadelphia and it’s citizens. A stark contrast to what we witness watching Mayor Kenney speak while addressing reporters after the July 4th shooting on the Ben Franklin Parkway that injured two officers while on duty. Mayor Kenney has checked out.
That should have been obvious as we watched homicide rates increase dramatically during his time in office, but now we are hearing it directly from his mouth.
He wants out, and Philadelphia deserves more.
